There are a couple of excuses, but the main one is I haven’t been terribly inspired lately. The secondary is, my life isn’t all that exciting. That said…
Book Review: The Da Vinci Code
0 Comments and 0 Trackbacks Published by Elana June 11th, 2005 in Books.Perhaps it was the build up and hype surrounding this book. It raised my expectations. I expected something I probably should not. However, I was severely disappointed after reading through The Da Vinci Code. The book was not horrifically bad, but I just could not find it to be this great work of fiction causing everyone to chat about it around the water coolers for the past year or so.
Book Review: Industrial Magic
2 Comments and 0 Trackbacks Published by Elana May 8th, 2005 in Books.Once again Kelley Armstrong lures us into her world of supernatural mystery, and once again, she doesn’t disappoint. Industrial Magic has to be my favorite in her Women of the Otherworld series so far. Keeping away from some of her contemporaries tendancies to move away from plot and into the world of porn, Ms. Armstrong leaves us with a wonderful story, and this time we have a mystery.
Book Review: Dime Store Magic
0 Comments and 0 Trackbacks Published by Elana May 2nd, 2005 in Books.I was a bit cautious entering into the world created by Kelley Armstrong in Dime Store Magic. I was leaving something I became familiar with when reading Bitten
and Stolen
. No longer would Elena be the main character. We would now be concentrating on Paige Winterbourne, a minor character in Stolen. I was even more concerned because I did not particularly like the Paige Winterbourne I met reading Stolen. She grew on me a bit before the end of the book, but I never really took to her character.
Book Review: The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous, & Broke
0 Comments and 0 Trackbacks Published by Elana April 28th, 2005 in Books. With all personal finance books, you should take the writing with a grain of salt. You have your own experiences to draw on to see if whether the advice offered is something feasible. The vast majority of personal finance books I read are not only totally unsuitable for my financial situation, they are also incredibly boring to read. To quote the author, “This is definitely not your parents’ money book.”
Book Review: The King of the Schnorrers
0 Comments and 0 Trackbacks Published by Elana April 19th, 2005 in Books.Few Americans will recognize the name Israel Zangwill (1864 - 1926), but he was a prominent author, essayist, and teacher in England in the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. His Jewish works explore the life of the Anglo-Jew living in England, not just during the time Zangwill lived, but in previous ages as well. They include popular, yet now more difficult to obtain, works such as Children of the Ghetto (1892) and Ghetto Comedies (1907). The King of the Schnorrers (1894) is possibly his most popular, and easy to obtain, work in this category.
Book Review: America (The Book): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction
0 Comments and 0 Trackbacks Published by Elana March 29th, 2005 in Books. This book has it all. It teaches you everything from the Magna Carta to the Supreme Court Justices (and how they look without their robes… William H. Rehnquist, will never be the same in my mind).
How could you not love America (the book)? It shows what a great nation we are. Where else in the world can people make fun of themselves in such a great way? At least, not without losing a limb or two?
When Elena is captured, how will she escape and free the other captives?
