Paid off!

As of this morning, my credit card debt is now completely paid off!
Of course, I still have a mortgage, a car loan, a student loan and a wedding to pay for! It’s not like I can go on a spending spree!

Debt Be Gone

Keep an eye on my debt meter over the next week. Since the bill payments are in, I feel confident to announce this publicly.

Tomorrow, my debt meter will read I have $200 remaining.
On 2/28 (next Wednesday), it will read $0 remaining.

I hope everyone is having a happy new year!

I have several resolutions I’ve made for this new year. Between the wedding and my desire to sell the condo and buy a house, many are financial in nature, but there are some self-improvement ones in there too.

It’s Spread the Spark week over on SparkPeople. I’m going to take time to talk about what it is and why I think the site is a great way to start a healthy lifestyle. Spark isn’t about dieting or just weight loss. I recommend simply joining for the articles and exercise, even if you’re not looking to lose weight right now. It’s informative, and I like the attitude. The community there has been excellent and supportive. It’s nice to get good words from strangers. In order to support SparkPeople, which provides these services for free, I’m going to be putting banners on each of my posts and in the RSS feed this week. Check it out!

I found this website throught the Boston Globe. It’s interesting. You share your net worth and you comment on others, asking questions or offering advice. I’ve just started peeking around and I think I might review the site on Money Stuffed in the upcoming weeks. Work is starting to ease up [...]

On Windows boxes, the ‘I’m computing and you’re stuck waiting’ symbol is an hourglass. On the Mac, it’s the Beach ball and it looks something like this:

The Beach ball

I could use a little help in brainstorming for some Money Stuffed articles for the upcoming months. I’ve almost worked through my full list of article ideas and I’m sure there’s ton more to write about.
So, if you have a personal finance question you’d like to see an answer to, and would like [...]

Junk mail is one of those insidious things I don’t think too much about on a daily basis. It’s annoying. I throw it out. On the other hand, throwing it out, even in the recycle bin, shows I’m tossing out a lot of paper, and therefore, there’s a lot of trees being wasted in my junk mail. It’s sort of like spam, but while I block spam into my inbox, I don’t do anything about my junk mail. That is, until now. I’ve taken advantage of a small part of the Fair Credit Report Act (FCRA) and opted out of receiving junk mail.

For me, doing my taxes is a race to see how quickly I can get my refund. I rarely have to pay anything since I have more than enough being withheld by my employer. However, this year, I’m itching to see if I reach that obnoxious, made-for-the-upper-class-but-never-adjusted-for-inflation-so-hits-the-middle-class plateau also known as AMT (Alternate Minimum Tax), which is something I could see affecting me but it’s not a sure thing.
