Volunteering to Balance Checkbooks
Published by Elana October 28th, 2005 in Volunteer Work & Charitable Giving. The woman from the Cape Ann ElderCare services contacted me back and suggested I do something a little closer to home. So, I contacted the Chelsea/Revere/Winthrop Money Program manager and she was escstatic to get someone out of Winthrop. The thing about living in Winthrop is there are a lot of old people there. There are at least two, probably three, retirement homes I can think of off the top of my head, plus a lot of seniors in the neighborhood. It’s always been my hope we would be able to get a deal on a slight fixer-upper of a house just out of probate when we’re looking to buy in the future.
So, on Wednesday morning I have a doctor’s appointment at 9:30 am, and will be meeting Ceile at a Revere Dunkin’ Donuts at 8 am to chat and go over the paperwork. If I take one client, which I will do to start, it shouldn’t be more than an hour or two a month. If it goes well, I might take on a second client. We’ll see how it works. Problems can range from someone has arthritis and can’t write out checks to credit card debt to they just can’t figure out how to pay their bills anymore.
It looks like this is going to happen now.
