I’m working on a new project, and need to evaluate free or open source bulletin board systems. I can’t afford to purchase something right now with the idea I’m working with being rather untried. Optimally, the bulletin board system would allow me to modify it so the color scheme and fonts would fit in with the rest of the website I’m designing. It would also be easy to install and maintain. I’m familiar with PHP and MySQL for the backend, so those would be ideal.

I have mixed feelings about the news of Bank of America purchasing MBNA (BugMeNot login info).

WordPress 1.5.1.3

There is apparently a significant security risk in the last version of WordPress (1.5.1.2) which required an immediate fix or upgrade. There is more information here about the steps required.

XM Radio Online & Macs

If anyone has a Mac (I use a 15″ G4 Powerbook, to be precise) and XM Radio, and has actually gotten online streaming to work, I’d like to hear from you.

Batman Begins

Batman Begins was different than any of the previous Batman movies in the franchise. It was more real. Instead of dark, gothic landscapes, Gotham was a city (looking distinctly like an abstract of Chicago) and it felt like it could really exist. Instead of a mythic creation, the characterization of Bruce Wayne as provided for by Christian Bale was legitimate. You could almost believe the character exists.

Yesterday was a hot day too. However, Carl and I thought we would overcome that and go Geocaching. We were wrong. We were very, very wrong.

Sloganized!

Thanks to cassie_o.

It was wicked hot today; 97°F hot. Hot enough instead of getting dressed this morning, I put on a bathing suit and walked down to the beach. I spent an hour and a half baking, going into the still frigid ocean to cool off, and baking some more.

My day of leisure and relaxation was later disturbed by my coming across one of the most fucked up stories I’ve seen on the Internet.
