Self-Discovery
Published by Elana February 3rd, 2005 in Random Ramblings.I know I haven’t posted in awhile, but I’ve had reasons as to why I haven’t. I’ve also been reflecting on things and what I want to do next.
For those who have asked, I’m not leaving the convention scene. Carl and I are still operations staff at Pacific Media Expo (PMX), which will be at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, CA on Labor Day weekend. The PMX staff has been incredible since I’ve first started working with them prior to the 2003 convention. Mike Tatsugawa and all the other staff have been lovely. There is the potential for other conventions, but right now, I want to take a bit of a break from getting into new things. I just finished my MBA and now I have all this free time. I think I’ll be taking some time for myself.
Carl and I are going on a cruise to the Bahamas (with his family) in a few weeks. We also have plans on going to the Vermont Maple Festival in April. Other plans include staying in California for the week after PMX and touring up North to Hearst Castle and potentially going up towards Maine (and potentially Acadia) and getting some hiking in this summer. Carl’s really gotten into Geocaching and since I just enjoy the hikes, it works out well for us.
The snow from the big blizzard of ‘05 is finally beginning to melt. Carl took some pictures during Sunday. For those who don’t remember, the blizzard started on Saturday evening and ran all day Sunday, well into the night. These were taken during Sunday afternoon when we decided we’d better start clearing things out if we wanted to even think of getting out on Monday. It turns out the streets of my town were closed to all but emergency vehicles on Monday anyhow. Actually, they didn’t even get around to clearing the snow off my street until last night. I can finally park my car near my house again!
I’ve also learned some things.
- Never let Dad talk you into getting the 4 cylinder Grand Am when you know you should get the 6 cylinder.
- Don’t ride a bicycle on a gravel path when your backpack is broken and full.
- Don’t run to answer the phone when holding a cat.
- Your true friends are those who stick with you in tough times, no matter what.
And…
To all those who have stuck by me, and who I haven’t personally thanked, this is for you…
