Coincidence or Paranoia?
Published by Elana December 1st, 2004 in Business & Finance, Credit, Personal Finance. On November 11, I had my bank’s bill payment service send (via US Mail) a check to HSBC, the bank that services Best Buy’s credit program. I purchase many items using Best Buy’s default of 0% interest for 3 months (6 months for larger purchases) and I sent an extra payment in just to be sure I made all my obligations as to not pay any interest on my purchases.
On November 15, I sent out my normal payment for Best Buy.
On November 24, the payment I sent on November 15 posted with a transaction date of November 23, presumably the date the check was received.
Time passes. Note, the account takes a day to update with postings, so anything posted on November 24 would show up on the 25th online.
Yesterday, I called HSBC’s Best Buy customer service center and asked about my payment from the 11th. They told me there must have been a delay with the holiday and to wait until Thursday before calling again. I asked them to please make a note on my account that I had inquired as to the payment.
Today, I noticed my payment from the 11th had been posted yesterday. The transaction date was November 19, presumably when they actually received it and then lost it. Funny how it shows up right after I call inquiring about the payment, isn’t it?
