PMX Friday

It’s been awhile and I haven’t worked out the code to put in collapsable sections (Javascript) yet, so this may be a bit long. Just warning you.

Just for fun (stolen from bludstone): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62054&item=8107675670&rd=1

Serves the kid right. Now that’s out of the way…

Friday

Carl and I get up at 6:15 am and get dressed and ready to meet our cab to the airport at 7:30 am. We get to the airport by 8 am and are ready to go for our flight to Los Angeles. While in the air, I finished reading Faeries’ Landing, Vol. 3 and about half of the Working with Emotional Intelligence book. I need to finish that book up.

We got to LAX at around 12:30 pm Pacific Time (3:30 pm Eastern) and headed to pick up our luggage and grab a Super Shuttle ride to Anaheim. We had the unexpected pleasure (ahem) of touring some of the more interesting neighborhoods in L.A. on our way down when the driver dropped off other travelers (Compton…).

We finally got to the hotel around 3 pm PST and checked in. There was a bit of a hassle because we’re originally booked our own room for $125/night, which required a $143 deposit. Then we cancelled and rebooked for $99/night ($113 deposit). However, the $143 was never credited back and the $113 never charged. On top of this, we cancelled our room all together when PMX decided to allow staffers to room 2 to a space instead of 4 in order to help with room pick-up rates. The end result is they owed me $143 (and change). We finally got them to understand this and they put a $143 cedit on the room. Supposedly, I’ll see it charged back to my card since we didn’t charge anything against our room while we’re there. I’m still waiting on that. They still have a $50 temporary charge on the card.

After settling in our room, we headed downstairs and met up with Mike T. in the elevator. After introducing myself, I found out where ConOps was located and Carl and I headed over (following Mike). We introduced ourselves to Jerry and Mark and settled down to work (ConOps was opening at 4:30 pm). There was some delay over staff badges, but things got started quickly. I ended up giving the convention my walkie-talkie check in and out spreadsheet. While in ConOps, I got to meet up with Keys and Tama. I haven’t seen Keys since Anime Boston 2004 and Tama since Anime Boston 2003. It was good to run into them again. I also finally met Katherine Fang, who will be running registration for AB 2005.

We worked in ConOps until 11 pm (Pacific, it was 2 am Eastern at this point) and headed over for the all hands staff meeting. The meeting was moved to the ACC where we could stuff insane amounts of registration bags. We ran into Marisa and Casey at the ACC as we were settling down for bag stuffing. We finished and moved back to the Hilton for the actual meeting where all the division heads were introduced. Then they made us introduce ourselves (I hate that :P). Afterwards, it was back to ConOps for an Operations Division meeting and off to bed. Carl and I were given the morning off and didn’t have to report until 1 pm on Saturday. Sleep, sleep, sleep…

I’ll continue with Saturday - Tuesday in alternate posts. This is too long already.
