Mass Updating & My Car Accident
Published by Elana October 17th, 2003 in Conventions, Random Ramblings.I know. I’ve been awful about updating this. At least you know we didn’t go to Water Country. I didn’t leave that hanging :).
I’ve been keeping busy. School started again. Part of the reason that I haven’t been updating. I really miss my summer time off.
I worked Shoujocon, and it was fun. I don’t think I’ll be doing it again though. I’m going to cut down on conventions while I’m still in school after I’m done with my current commitments and stick with Anime Boston. AB 2005 will be after I graduate anyhow.
I also bought myself a new car on my birthday. An Acura RSX Type S. I’ve had it 3 weeks, and I didn’t even get the opportunity to take pictures before some idiot rear ended me on Rt 1 in Saugus. This happened Sunday night. Here’s the scoop:
Carl was driving because it was misting rain and dark and I just don’t see well in those situations. Rt. 1 in Saugus is 3 lanes of highway with no traffic lights, but you can pull on and off the road into various shopping plazas. We were in the left lane. Now, I didn’t see this part, but somewhere ahead of us, a car spun out in the road and all traffic stopped. An ambulance was already on the scene and turned on its lights. Carl’s reaction was to stop (because the cars in front of us were stopping) and to pull slightly off the road to allow the ambulance access. The idiot behind us’s reaction was to hit us (his left front hit our right rear). Carl managed to manuever the car completely off the road and did not hit the car in front of us (which was at a stand still). This was a good thing.
Idiot gets out of his car and the first words out of his mouth were, “Why did you stop?” Uh… because there were 3 lanes of stopped traffic ahead of us. My first question was, “Are you okay?” Luckily, noone was hurt. The next thing out of Idiot’s mouth was, “My parents just gave me this car.” My response, “I just bought this car 3 weeks ago.” Hey, I was getting a bit annoyed at this point.
The police arrived. We pulled across the highway and into a shopping plaza and waited for him to check licenses and registrations. Once that was done, we got in our cars to drive off (both were drivable). Idiot has to say one more thing, “Is anyone cited?” Dude, if it would have been anyone, it would have been you. I would have loved it if he had been, but geez, learn when you should keep your mouth shut. He was just further proving he was an idiot.
We drove off, had a nice dinner (but not before I spent 10 minutes on the phone with my insurance company and filed a claim). My car went into the car hospital yesterday. The insurance estimate was originally $925.13 for the visible damage. The car dealership (the car is under warranty and I’m not having it fixed anywhere else) already estimates that it’ll be $2500 in damage and take 2 weeks. I got a rental car from the Idiot’s insurance company for 6 days (including yesterday) which means I have to get a supplement by Tuesday or I’m out of a car.
My rental is a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer. Ick. Automatic. Ick. I miss my manual. I learned to drive manual just so I could have my RSX Type S. I didn’t realize how much cooler it was until I got back into an automatic.
So that’s the skinny on the car.
I have to get through this semester and next. Then I have the whole summer off. Looks like I’m going to spend 2 weeks in the UK and Ireland with K and Bob. Should be a fun trip. I’m already saving for it.
Upcoming events for me are:
Dinner at Blue Ginger - October 25, 2003
Trip to a B&B in Vermont for the weekend - November 14 - 16, 2003
Head to parents for Thanksgiving - November 26 - 30, 2003
Carl’s parents for Christmas - December 25, 2003
Shenton Family Christmas - December 26 - 27, 2003
Anime Boston - April 9 - 11, 2004
PMX - May 28 - June 1, 2004
Damn, I’m busy. And I’m planning on volunteering for the Democratic National Convention in July!
I think I’ve been converted. Yankees suck!
