Disney and Stuff
Published by Elana July 14th, 2003 in Conventions, Random Ramblings, Travel.I see Blogger has a new input screen. I’m not sure I like it yet. I suppose if it works, I’ll like it.
It’s been awhile, but for 8 days of that time, I wasn’t even near a computer. I have an excuse!
Yup, I went to Disney World for 7 nights (that’s 8 days). I love going for long periods because everything is so much more leisurely. We did all the parks, and then some. We went to Blizzard Beach and went down the huge-ass speed slide. Worst Park? Animal Kingdom. Best Park? Epcot Center. Epcot’s FutureWorld has a new ride coming out on Aug. 15. We rode it twice. It turns out the Imagineers open it up for a preview at random times. The ride is “Mission: Space”. The premise is that you’re training to go to Mars and will be in a simulator. You have to push buttons at specific times (they light up). It’s pretty cool. The way the ride spins, it doesn’t feel like you’re just spinning. It feels like you’re actually taking off, complete with G-Force. Very cool. I highly recommend trying it if you’re ever there.
We had dinner at Victoria & Albert’s one night when we were there. The quote of the vacation came from, “That was the first time I wrote in a tip that was the same amount as dinner when we go to Osaka”. Osaka is our favorite sushi place in Boston.
Then I spent last week catching up. It’s funny how noone does your work for you when you’re on vacation, so you spend the week after you take off working twice as hard to catch up.
Saturday K, Bob, Carl and I went to Six Flags. I think I was pretty amusement parked out by then, though and after riding Superman and spending a couple of hours at the water park, we rode a couple more superficial rides and then left. We decided to dine out at Bugaboo Creek in Framingham on our way home.
Yesterday, I spent over six hours working on the preliminary bits to the Anime Boston 2004 budget. I’m so glad that’s done. Now I just need to get budget requests and write out the real thing. But after that, it’s just being the ‘budget bitch’ and complaining that people are spending too much, and tracking income, at least until the convention.
Next month is ShoujoCon and I’m working registration for it. Then my next convention will be PMX where I’ll be working in operations. That’ll be over Memorial Day and in Anaheim, CA. I need to find out if I can swing a couple extra days and still go to Ireland with K and Bob next summer. I’m not sure I can, and even just a couple of days at Disney is kind of expensive. Maybe in 2005, if I work it again.
That’s pretty much it. Looks like I have a bunch of movies to catch up on, though. Pirates, Legally Blonde 2, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Charlie’s Angels 2. Plus, “Johnny English” opens this weekend and it looks pretty funny. I think Sunday will be a double feature day with JE and Pirates.
