Firebird

Wow, it’s been awhile since I updated. Okay, here’s the scoop…

Have since finished Patriot Games and The Cardinal of the Kremlin. I started Clear and Present Danger this morning.

The Oldsmobile convertible didn’t work out. The mechanic who checked it out offered me a possibility of a Chrysler Lebaron Convertible, but after test driving, I decided it wasn’t what I wanted. That, and the dipstick for the oil was completely missing (besides the top not working, the A/C not working, etc). Last Sunday, I met Carl for some dim sum in Chinatown and picked up the Globe again. There was an ad for a 1996 Pontiac Firebird for $6300. I was skeptical, of course. That price is about $2k less than the Kelly Blue Book value! So I took it out for a spin. It rode nice (but so did the Oldsmobile with the 14 mechanical issue with some majors), so I took it to a mechanic on Wednesday. Here’s the list of what needs to be done:

* Driver’s side window has a loose connection or needs the motor replaced - Carl said he’d do it at cost
* Left headlight (they’re the pop-up kind) makes a grinding noise when being put down - Carl said he’d do it at cost
* Power Steering hose needs to be replaced - probably a $100 - $150 job
* The lugs on the wheels need to be broken off because noone knows where the wheel key is.
* Two oil-related gaskets need repair - I’m holding off on this one. If I change the oil, and one month later I need to add more, then I’ll reconsider.

It’s got a T-top and it’s white, if you were wondering. I registered it and got the car to Winthrop yesterday, so it’s MINE!

I’m going to add a cd-changer.

July 4, I went to Adam’s for his pool party. Had a splashin-wet good time.

K, if you were wondering, he has your address. Flyers should be on their way. (Poke sent in Adam’s direction)

This weekend I’m heading out to our company’s annual summer picnic. I’m going to have to get the car insurance inspection done too. Carl’s coming over to run diagnostics on the car on Sunday.
