Mists

Since the plane ride home from Beijing, I’ve been reading a book by Marion Zimmer Bradley called The Mists of Avalon. If you were unfamiliar with the book before last year, that’s understandable, but since then it has been made into a mini-series by TNT. I bought the book quite some time ago, after the mini-series aired, but it’s a huge volume (about 850 pages), and I never had the time to sit down and read it. There’s nothing like a 17 hour plane ride to give you the time. Once I had started the book, I was compelled to finish it.

Although I have never been a huge fan of the story of King Arthur and the knights of Camelot, I know the basic gist and the legends as they’ve been told by Mallory (hope I spelled that right) and others. I even remember reading, at some point, a poem entitled Sir Gawaine and the Green Knight back in high school. I’ll never forget the part where the green knight picks up his own head and walks out of King Arthur’s hall.

This book went beyond all that and told the story in a way I never imagined, from the women’s point of view. I highly recommend it, but you do need to be warned that it is a rather large book and will take time to get through. I thought it was worth it.

School Daze

I have my final class about China tomorrow night. Pizza to be included. I have about three papers to write before then. Procrastinator supreme strikes again.
