Owning a Home is Costly

I know I’ve fallen behind on both my blogs. This one and my China Blog. Anyhow, partly it’s because I had this huge project due today for accounting class. I’ve mentioned it before. I had to compare Hasbro and Mattel and basically say which one I’d rather have stock in. I think it turned out to be an okay job, but it still feels half-assed. Hopefully, my professor doesn’t read this. I was also sick, which, of course, put me behind on the project.
On top of all that, I had my parents over this past weekend. They brought up my bicycle, and air conditioner, and a bookshelf for the new condo. On Saturday, we did a lot of work around the place, including changing over all the locks. I need to price out some alarm systems for the place. I got a notification that my first condo meeting is on Thursday, but I already had plans to see Six Degrees of Seperation over at Tufts, so I’m going to have to miss it. If I’d had more notice… Oh well, c’est la vie.
Home Improvement
We also spent an ungodly amount of money at Home Depot for paint, paint materials, utility shelves for the basement storage area, and a closet maid organizer. The thing is, not one of these things was individually expensive (the paint was $20/gallon) but it added up. There was 12 gallons of paint, then the $30 closer organizer, then the $20 each shelves. Then all the little $2 items really, really added up. When we got back to the condo we found a very hairless Megazone (o.O) and unloaded all the crap into the condo. The existing shelves in the closet were then removed and saved. We’re going to saw them down and rehang them on the opposite wall so I’ll have nearly twice the closet space. Better utilization of the space, anyhow.
We also spackled, got all the materials that were on the wall off the wall (i.e. towel racks), taped the tile, taped some cabinets (although not all), and removed cabinet doors that could possibly get in the way of painting. There’s still more taping to do, but since I’m doing the trim first, I’m not overly concerned about it. It can be left for people to do just before doing the rolling on the walls.
I’m highly debating getting a medicine cabinet for the bathroom and pernamently replacing the mirror that is there, or was there. We took it down to paint behind. I can get one at the hardware store in the morning when I’m buying the edgers for the painting.
And In Conclusion…
Well, only one hour before I leave work and go to class. I had yesterday as a sick day and since today is a short day at work, I need to make sure I spend the last hour actually working. I guess this counts as my catch-up journal entry. Besides, I was getting sick of looking at Cheer Bear. Weren’t you?
