I am a Homeowner

I just haven’t been motivated to write in this blog. The end of last week was pretty tame. After a game of phone tag, I finally got in touch with my lawyer about the things that hadn’t been done on the condo yet. You see, on March 19 I had my ‘final’ inspection of the unit in the evening. I went in and noticed the following:
- 1 loose gasket on the dishwasher
- The left rear burner still wasn’t working. The owner actually slammed it into the socket while the burner was on and blue sparks flew out before it would work.
- The bathroom ceiling was not painted
- The toilet wasn’t fixed.
I called my lawyer the next day (Wednesday) but he was in court in the morning, and called back while I was in a meeting later that day. So I called him back on Thursday, and he was in court again. He didn’t get back in touch with me until Friday. Now, remember closing is supposed to be on Monday. So, I told him the problems and he told me I had to go back again this weekend and make a punchlist of what isn’t done. So, I call the real estate company and arranged a viewing on Sunday evening.
Saturday Fun
On Saturday, taking a break from all the condo closing foo, I went with Adam and his friend (Other) Pat (i.e. Not PatrickD) to see La Cage Aux Folles at Babson college. One of Pat’s co-workers was playing Albin and it was a pretty decent production. Unlike the production that I saw in San Jose (which was professional, so you have to excuse certain things to the community theatre version), you could tell who was male and who was female. It made it very Full Monty in delivery. Either way, I had a good time. We dined at the Wellesley Bertuccis for dinner and then had lots of time so we had a nice long walk. Next Saturday will be Adam’s Anime Music Video party in Worcester. Megazone is giving me a lift out there and it should be a good time, despite being on Passover.
Inspection #2
So Sunday I got almost nothing done but I did go on my second Inspection of the condo. Funny how everything listed above was suddenly complete and working. It didn’t take very long.
Closing Day
On Monday I became a homeowner. I guess that means I have achieved the American dream considering Locke’s quote of everyone having a right to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of property. Then I went to work and was very unproductive. Shhh, don’t tell my boss.
Back to School
Tuesday was the end of Spring Break for me. I went back to class. I guess I did okay on the midterm for accounting, but I wasn’t terribly thrilled with my score. I guess it’s better than totally bombing, but I really did miss some key concepts in the class. We started the managment accounting bit (as opposed to financial accounting) and it seems a bit ‘easier’. We’ll see. I have homework due next week, and then my company comparison project is due the week after that. I’m hoping to work on some homework at lunch today.
Coming Up
Tonight is the first night of Passover, but no sedar for me. I can’t find it worth the effort to do a sedar for one. Tonight K and I will go to a special preview of The Rookie. I’ll have a salad for dinner. No croutons. Then tomorrow, I might actually have time to do the grocery shopping. Friday, I’m making chili for Adam’s party. Saturday, the party. Sunday, I think I’ll need to collapse and maybe get my homework done. I’m pooped.
