Shenton Family Christmas
Published by Elana December 26th, 2001 in Random Ramblings.Okay, this weekend (long as it was) just involved too many parentals. My family is so annoying.
Friday night my sister and mother picked me up at the airport. No problems here.
Saturday was the day that we were supposed to have the annual Shenton Family Christmas and the reason why I came down Friday night. It was changed about 3 weeks ago to Sunday. So, I watched a lot of DVDs. I wanted to see LoTR but my mother complained that she had gifts to wrap and kugel to make before the next day, so we just went to Chili’s and I tried to dull the pain with margaritas.
Sunday we went to Shenton Family Christmas where I got to see relatives from California I haven’t seen in a few years. That wasn’t too bad. I got a little cat clock, lots of candy, and money. My grandmother gave me some family jewelry, mostly costume. I was getting enough of my family at this point.
Monday was the day before the morning that I had to stay through. Only thing we did was go to see LoTR. I loved this movie. I did not love the way my family treated me at dinner (I just love being the only one not allowed to talk at dinner). Let’s just say the day ended with me cursing off my obnoxious father and me holing up in my room.
Tuesday didn’t start much better than Monday ended. No bagels. No lox. Just pancakes. Then my mother was snipey (nothing new here). We opened gifts. I got money, a Far Side Calendar, and an extra digital camera battery. Oh yeah, Hannukah gelt (i.e. more candy). I have enough sugar to last me, well, until next week. I holed up in my room until it was time to get the ‘take Elana to the airport so she can get out of this hell hole’ plan. I ended up packing everything up then and going with the parentals to a Kosher deli for lunch (not just Chinese is open on Christmas Day). Then to the airport where I waited on an hour line to check in my luggage (more on that later). Then a not too long line for security and I got to the gate 45 minutes before take-off, and about 15 minutes before boarding.
Despite my on-time arrival, my luggage didn’t make it to Boston with me, so I was up until 1:30 am waiting for it to get delivered. When you have to be up at 6 am, there’s nothing more thrilling than being awake until 2 am. Really. I have to get ready for work now.
